And So It Begins
Yes. This is the beginning. Tomorrow at five AM I'll be leaving the house on a journey. It sounded interesting in embryo form but as I sit here contemplating the luggage and the upcoming flight, I find myself wondering what in God's name have I gotten myself into. Ahead of me lay 16 (or so) days of travel across three countries on the other side of the world. I am fine with it as of this point (like I have any choice). I will be doing it. Whether or not I succeed at the task put before me is another question. The tricky bit is that there isn't a succeed or fail aspect to this journey. I was given the funds and set on a course that I, me and myself, suggested. Sure! Travel from Boston to Seoul, Beijing, and Singapore and interview artists about new media. Why not? Sounds like a great idea! And then "pow," I got the grant. So off I go.
When I was twelve years old I pressured my parents to let me apply to a Catholic prep school just to see if I could do it. I passed with flying colours and then spent the next two years cursing myself for my hubris. What the f**k did I know about Catholocism? Sure we were nominally religious but my parents always played it up as something that we had to do to fit in. Otherwise we'd be the agnostics on the block. A major no-no as a military family. There is something to be said for keeping quiet and toeing the line. Anyway, my point being, be careful what you wish for.
Then again I am going on a sixteen day jaunt across Asia thanks to a foundation.
Beat that bitches. See you in Seoul. (That is the Central Post Office above.)
